Runners-up spot for Coady and co
2nd May 2012 - Latest News
It has been confirmed tonight that Liverpool Reserves have finished as runners-up in the Barclays Premier Reserve League North.
Rodolfo Borrell's side have entertained the LFC TV viewers during the 2011-12 season and played some great football, scoring some spectacular goals.
Despite Everton's 2-0 win at Arsenal, Borrell's charges had a far superior goal difference to finish in second place behind Barclays Premier League North Champions Manchester United.
Raheem Sterling and company also finished third in the first season of the NextGen Series and will compete in the U19 European competition once again next season
During the 2011-12 season Borrell's side found themselves playing against strong teams but the U18s from the previous season rose to the occasion and more than matched the senior players.
Despite the 2-1 defeat to Newcastle in their last match, the second string had previously gone nine games unbeaten in the league producing memorable displays against the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United who both fielded strong XIs.
Borrell told Liverpoolfc.tv: "I am proud of the lads and for them to finish second is very pleasing.
"We always try to play football the right way and the lads have done very well.
"In many games we have found ourselves playing against some strong teams but the way they have performed is encouraging for the future."
