Kalou open to Liverpool switch

by Michelle Fortune , 13 June 2012

Salomon Kalou's agent is happy to play a waiting game after a number of clubs were linked with a move for the forward.

Kalou is available on a free transfer following his release by Chelsea and he would appear to have his pick of clubs with the likes of Liverpool, Newcastle and Schalke all reported to be interested in signing him.

New Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers worked with Kalou during his time as a coach at Chelsea and is believed to be preparing an approach to the Ivory Coast international but there has been no official expression of interest.

Kalou's agent Rodger Linse admits his client is in talks but he is reluctant to reveal which club he is speaking with.

"There are conversations going on, and of course when that is happening then you must be careful what you say," he told the Liverpool Echo.

"Liverpool can speak for themselves, and Schalke can speak for themselves. That is fine.

"Of course Liverpool is a very big club, in terms of support and in terms of history.

"It is definitely positive to hear that a big club like them are showing an interest in Salomon, though it is too early to say anything definitive at this stage."

Kalou spent six years with Chelsea and Schalke manager Huub Stevens recently suggested that he was looking to move away from England.

Linse, however, believes he could be persuaded to remain if the right offer came along.

"He has been very happy at Chelsea," he added. "He is a player with ambition, and he has managed to satisfy a lot of those ambitions over the last few years.

"He never quite made it to be a guaranteed starter with Chelsea, but his statistics were always good, and he won lots of trophies there.

"In many ways it will be difficult to find a better place to be, but he is open-minded, and would be happy to continue in England if the right club comes in."
