Liverpool desperately needs to sign forward Salomon Kalou to help bolster their offensive firepower.

Liverpool has already made a splash during the offseason by signing Gylfi Sigurdsson (per Mirror Football), but they seem poised to make another one as there has been talk about striker Kalou making a move to Liverpool as well.

Neil Jones of the Liverpool Echo reported that Kalou has expressed interest in joining Liverpool, after speaking with the player's agent, Rodger Linse.

Crunchsports.com reported that Liverpool is keen to sign the young forward, according to Schalke coach Huub Stevens, who is also pursuing Kalou.

Signing Kalou would add to an offense that scored a mere 47 goals in the Barclays Premier League this past season, which was only good enough for seventh in the league. Liverpool also only recorded 26 assists as a team, a meager 17th in the EP.

The Reds' leading scorer from this past season was Luis Suarez, with only 11 goals.

Kalou presents problems for opposing defenses because of his speed and ability to get up and down the field quickly, something the Reds lacked this past season.

Kalou's numbers took a bit of dip last season due to lack of playing time. He only scored five goals for Chelsea. During the 2010-11 season, however, he scored 12 goals.

Before 2011-12, he scored double-digit goals in three consecutive seasons.

The Reds will face competition for Kalou's services from Schalke, but Liverpool has to do whatever it can to get a player like Kalou under contract.

The lack of offense from the Reds contributed to them finishing eighth in the standings last season.

In the event that they indeed get Kalou under contract, alongside Sigurdsson, who scored seven goals in only 17 appearances last season for Swansea City, expect them to ascend in the standings a little bit with two good forwards that were not there for the Reds last season.
