Liverpool: Krasic Link Resurfaces
Liverpool are seemingly finally set to secure the services of Milos Krasic if the latest rumours are to be believed.
The 27-year-old winger was heavily linked with a move to the Reds back in January but nothing materialised. Nor did anything come of a concrete loan approach from Tottenham Hotspur thus leaving Krasic to remain at Juventus for the remainder of the season.
After a good first season at the Italian giants, Krasic fell out of favour dramatically last term and made only 9 appearances in all competitions (7 in the league). After costing Juve £14m in 2010 from CSKA Moscow the Turin based club will be looking to recoup as much money as possible for a player who is now set to only depart in a permanent transfer despite further interest in potential loan deals.
The Serbian is a right-sided player by trade who is noted for his dribbling, technique and speed with the fee, according to both the Daily Mail and the Daily Mirror, probably around £6m.
Krasic's agent Vlado Bozan recently acknowledged that the Premier League was one of the options open to his client saying: "He is a great player and we'll see in June where he is going to play. There are many admirers interested in him and not only based in Italy, but in England as well."
West Ham United are also thought to be interested after Hammers boss Sam Allardyce spent time in Italy earlier this week although Krasic is only one of a number of players set to leave the Serie A champions as they attempt to raise money for a new striker.
Another winger on Juve's list of available players, Eljero Elia, could also interest both the Reds and West Ham. However stiffer competition is expected for the Dutch international's signature with Schalke, Benfica and Feyenoord all known admirers.
Elia has only spent one season in Italy having joined from Hamburg for €9m last summer and the The Old Lady will be hopeful of recuping the majority of that fee despite the 25-year-old fairing even worse than Krasic on the appearances front with only 5 in total.
Vital Verdict
The characteristics of both Krasic and Elia could serve Liverpool well as the club struggled last season with only Stewart Downing and youngster Raheem Sterling as natural wing options. Players such as Jordan Henderson, Dirk Kuyt, Craig Bellamy and Maxi Rodriguez were routinely fielded in unnatural wide areas as a consequence. With Kuyt now left to join Fenerbahce and Maxi still expected to depart at some stage soon, the alternatives have since decreased further. The fee in Krasic's case at least is also a reasonable figure so this is a signing we personally would like to see.
