Malaga striker Salomon Rondon will be on the move soon enough, and it appears one of the top contenders to land him is Liverpool. The Reds have a golden opportunity to make a real impact on their club for next season and must bring Rondon to Liverpool.
According to Greg Heffer of DailyStar.co.uk, per Spanish newspaper El Mundo Deportivo, Liverpool as well as Chelsea and Tottenham are all in the hunt for Rondon's services. But it won't be cheap, and Malaga will seek a hefty price of £20 million for the 22-year-old.
Rondon scored 11 goals for his club last season, and that was instrumental in helping Malaga make Champions League qualifications. His 13 goals the year before led the club.
Adding such a talent to their front line would give Liverpool some much-needed youth to work with that would help re-energize the entire club. There's no question Rondon will put the ball in the back of the net for the Reds, thus giving them a much-improved offense.
Furthermore, Rondon's speed on the field will help open up more chances for the Reds. With opposing defenses having to plan for and pay extra attention to the young striker, it'll give Liverpool's other offensive weapons some room to breath and do damage.
The competition for Rondon will be stiff to say the least. Per the same report by Heffer, not only are the three Premier League squads battling over the striker, but so are unnamed German sides as well.
The last thing the Reds want is to have Rondon snatched out from under their grasp, especially by a fellow English club. It would add insult to injury if Rondon went on to torture Liverpool for the foreseeable future instead of helping them.
It remains to be seen if Malaga will get their asking price which happens to be around £16.5 million more than they paid for the striker themselves.
In this instance, Liverpool is better off paying the king's ransom and being with Rondon, not against him.
