Liverpool was frequently mentioned as a possible landing spot for Eljero Elia last summer before the Dutch striker ended up with Juventus. After a disappointing season with the Vecchia Signora, it's time for the Reds to make a strong push to land the rising star.

Elia definitely wants a move away from Juventus after watching his playing time dwindle, and Liverpool is a prime candidate, according to Alex Shaw of Talk Sport. The report says his current club won't stop a potential move.

The biggest reason the Reds weren't able to keep pace in the Premier League this season was a lack of offensive firepower. Only Luis Suarez was able to break the 10-goal barrier, and Andy Carroll fell well short of expectations in his first full season with the team.

Players like Steven Gerrard and Craig Bellamy are reliable, but both guys are on the wrong side of 30. So it's clear Liverpool needs to take a serious look at adding some talent up front during the summer if they want to become more competitive before next season.

Elia is capable of playing up top as a striker, but he's more commonly been used as a winger in the midfield during his career. He brings great pace to the table that he should be able to harness more effectively once he starts getting more chances to play.

Since it remains unclear whether Liverpool will have the funds necessary to chase a higher-profile player to fill their scoring needs, the Reds should target underrated options like Elia that will still produce without having to break the bank to get them.

Juventus hasn't dropped a single game in Serie A play and Elia has only made four appearances, so it's clear he doesn't have much of a future there even though the team stepped up to get him from Hamburg a year ago.

That should ensure Elia shouldn't cost Liverpool too much whether it be through a loan deal or a full transfer agreement. Either way, the Reds would be getting a playing that should thrive in a new environment for a reasonable price.

The Reds may choose to examine all of their options before jumping at a deal, but they have to ensure the window doesn't pass them by without making at least a couple moves to improve the attack. That's why a quick move once the window opens would serve them well.

All told, Liverpool and Elia seem like a perfect match.
