As Liverpool makes their first North American trip since 2004, new manager Brendan Rodgers is excited about the Reds' upcoming stint this football season.

In a press conference featured on liverpoolfc.com, Rodgers talked to reporters about the excitement for the club's upcoming trip.

"Team bonding and social bonding important. It's great to take the football club to our worldwide supporters. It's a real football institution with supporters not only in Liverpool, but worldwide. So we'll look forward to it."

As anxious as the club is to begin their preseason experience in North America, it will be business as usual once the Reds open up Premier League play against West Bromwich Albion on Aug. 18.

Here are three players that have been linked to Liverpool's possible transfer rumors.

Joe Cole

The 30-year-old midfielder returns to Liverpool after spending the last season in France playing for Lille. Cole's absence from the Premier League and a new manager in Liverpool gives him an incentive to play with the team that took him in 2010.

In an interview with the Daily Mail, Cole admitted he was "startled a bit" upon originally signing with Liverpool.

"I don't know if I felt the pressure but the city is so in love with football. It's a religion. If I go back, I will be more prepared for it this time."

Whether or not Rodgers will have him back is another mystery.

Clint Dempsey

The American's stock is at an all-time high after a 17-goal performance on a low-profile Fulham club last season. Dempsey has improved every year since his rookie campaign in 2004 with the New England Revolution in the MLS.

If Liverpool were to sign Dempsey, they would be getting a versatile midfielder who could take some of the burden off Luis Suarez.

According to sportige.com, the Reds are targeting Dempsey and could possibly hear something in the next 24 hours.

Since Rodgers hasn't made any big-name signings since taking Liverpool over, Dempsey could be a nice addition to a struggling club that had a difficult time scoring goals last season.

Andy Carroll

In his press conference earlier today for liverpoolfc.com, Rodgers was unable to guarantee Andy Carroll's future with the Reds.

"He is a very good young player and, like I said, he will be linked with clubs because he is such a good player."

Rodgers denied hearing any inquiries from AC Milan who were inquiring about Carroll. Whether or not Carroll is a member of Liverpool once the season begins, Rodgers said he hopes to have a squad that he can take through.
