Teams

Bolton Wanderers

Jaaskelainen: 6- Didn’t stand much of a chance on the three goals. Was surprisingly a threat launching long balls from set-pieces into Liverpool’s penalty area.

Samuel: 6- Made a great well-timed tackle on Johnson in the second half but succumbed to the constant Liverpool pressure in the final 30 minutes of the match.

Knight: 6- Did a nice job of neutralizing the threat of Torres in the first half but was under severe pressure after Davis received his marching orders and was overrun.

Cahill: 6.5- One of the most underrated defenders in the Prem. Picked up an early yellow card but that did not deter him from standing tall before Davis was sent off.

Ricketts: 5.5- The former Hull City man stood tall and proud in the first half but like the rest of his team-mates struggled in the final 35 minutes.

Taylor: 6.5- Could have added his name to the score sheet if not for Reina’s heroics just before the half-time whistle.

Cohen: 7- Was at fault for Liverpool’s first goal as he failed to close down Johnson quickly enough but more than made up for his mistake when he grabbed a goal just 90 seconds into the second half.

Muamba: 7- He was given the job of shadowing Gerrard and performed his role to almost perfection until Davis was sent off.

Davis: 4- Did the dirty work in midfield but did his side no favors when he picked up his second yellow card for a silly foul on Lucas. It was the pivotal moment of the match.

Davies: 7.5- He was involved in both goals, as he scored the first and then set up the second with a nice flick on to Cohen.

Elmander: 5.0- In a horrible scoring slump at the moment but did nod the ball on to set up Davies’ goal although there was a hint of hand ball on the play.

Substitutions:

Liverpool

Reina: 6- Could not be blamed for the two Bolton goals and made a terrific save on Taylor right before half-time.

Insua: 6- Linked up well with Riera on the flank and seems to be Benitez's first choice left-back.

Kyrgiakos: 6- The Greek international was handed his Liverpool debut with mixed results. Battled hard against Davies all afternoon long.

Carragher: 6- The Kop legend will not be pleased with conceding yet another goal from a set-piece.

Johnson: 8 - A real threat when he pushed forward and was the most dangerous Liverpool player on the field. Scored a lovely goal and has been money well spent for the Reds.

Riera: 6- Made his first appearance of the season for the Reds and lasted just over 60 minutes.

Mascherano: 6.5- The tough as nails midfielder was not at his dominant best this afternoon but put in a decent shift before he was hooked to make way for an attacking option in Voronin.

Lucas: 5- Failed to rebound with a good performance after his horror show against Villa. Was wasteful in possession, slipped inside of his own area which gave Cohen the room to beat Reina and was disappointing once again this afternoon

Kuyt: 7 - The tireless Dutchman set up Torres for Liverpool’s second goal with a great chested knockdown.

Gerrard: 8 - He was frustrated for the first 45 minutes of the match but took advantage of the space he was afforded after Davis’ sending off. Came to his team’s rescue once again with a majestic volley that won the match.

Torres: 8- ‘El Nino’ was wasteful in front of goal in the first half but found his shooting boots in the second 45 minutes. Scored the equalizer in the second half and nodded the ball down to Gerrard for the winner.
